My name is Father Matthew Henry, and I am the new guy, new to the priesthood and new to the Cathedral. After finishing my seminary preparation at Saint John Vianney Seminary in Denver, Colorado, I was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Phoenix on June 5, 2010.

I have spent my whole life in Phoenix after moving here from Wisconsin when I was six months old. My home parish is Saint Theresa in Phoenix, where I also attended grade school. My high school days were spent at Arcadia High School in Phoenix, before I went to the seminary at the age of 18.

I am proud to have studied and been formed at two wonderful seminaries, Mount Angel in Oregon and Saint John Vianney in Colorado, and now am so blessed to serve the Lord and His people as Parochial Vicar in our beautiful Cathedral. Each time I process in to celebrate Mass, I am reminded of the day when I laid down on the floor at my ordination and answered the call to follow Christ who said, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).
